ReplyDeleteMost of the geeks I know are socially inept with folks who don't share their passions, but I've also been known to describe us as the pack form of nerds.
Really "dweeb" and "dork" only refer to social ineptitude; "geek" now primarily means the obsession with the intelligence only implied; and "nerd" primarily refers to intelligence (or rather, studiousness).
DeleteBut that doesn't fit so tidily into a Venn diagram. "Let's pretend words mean things they really don't, so we have one word for each slot!"
*Geek has intelligence and social ineptitude only implied, rather. The latter mostly being a function of the obsession.
